I'm currently experimenting with new designs. My goals are:
- Make a theme that is a pleasure on the eyes and feels consistent across applications (this means that it doesn't matter if you're using LibreOffice, Thunderbird, Clementine, or a native GTK+ application)
- Reduce the eye strain (So I won't be using dark toolbars for sure)
It's really hard to achieve so without falling into "metalic-gray mac-like" themes
I noticed, when I install this theme, the system slows down considerably and Xorg shoots over 80% of the CPU quickly look through a menu (for example). It happens only to me? Can it be a problem with some deb package that updates, in addition to light-themes?
thanks, but no change. Just I add the repo and upgrade packages, the whole system slows down. even write a web address in the address bar is difficult. If I downgrade packages everything is back to normal ... what a pity, because it happen with unity-3d, not with unity-2d: (
Please update to the next version and tell me if the problem persists. It could be anything because the only package installed along with the light-themes is the pixmap engine (gtk2-engines-pixbuf). So I need more details:
1) Is it related to Ambiance? Try switching to Radiance
2) Try changing the window borders, so I can tell if it has to do with the metacity decorators and/or compiz
3) Does it occur under GTK2 or GTK3 applications?
4) Are you experiencing the same problem when using another theme, like Zukitwo or Adwaita?
thanks again ... I tried Ambiance and Radiance evolution and there was the problem that I said before, in unity-3d, both with gtk3 and gtk2. With unity-2d there isn't any problem and all it's normal. Instead the Ambiance and Radiance default works well both in unity-3d and in unity-2d. I don't know what happens... maybe it's my ubuntu installation... thanks anyway, dpn't worry, it seems that the problem is only mine eheheh
Thanks for YOUR patience, not for my patience However, I install ubuntu-tweak 0.6 and I have set Ambiance(default) as my "Gtk theme" and Ambiance(I suppose evolution) as my "Window theme"... no problems! If I set Ambiance(evolution) as Window theme, the problems begins. At the end I continue with your fantastic theme only as window theme, not bad
...thanks for your patience , and for your precious time!
I've enjoyed this theme since you first released it (or since it was first on webupd8 or some site like that). I'm glad you've made a GTK3 version of the old GTK2 look, I never really liked the glossy titlebars and sunken gradient. Thanks for all your hard work!
Awesome work! One thing that's weird though is that the icons in the window buttons (close, minimise and maximise) have disappeared. I'm just left with 3 empty circles in the title bar, do you have any idea how to fix this.
To solve the problem with the buttons, after updating install gnome-tweak-tool and then select Ambiance (default) as your window theme. To modify the window controls used by Unity, you need to copy the Unity folder from Ambiance (default) and paste it into the Ambiance folder. These folders are located under /usr/share/themes/
I actually preferred these when they were more similar to the themes shipped in 11.10. I mean the glassy window border and the gradient in the toolbars. Any chance of getting an alternate version for Oneiric that is just like the defaults, but extended to all applications? For example, Banshee, evince, eye of gnome and others do not use dark toolbars in the stock Ambiance, but they do in your version.
Also, why do you pack these to replace the originals? Wouldn't it be better to install them as additional themes? Or does it have something to do with the window controls?
All in all, great themes, I used them during Natty and installed them since day 1 in Oneiric. Cheers!
